Maintenance Manager

To lead, direct and guide team members within the maintenance department to guarantee the functionality and performance of the available physical equipment assets of the plant.  Focus on reliability metrics that ensure that the operation is cost effective and provides the results that achieve performance metrics.  Must have accountability for team member safety and team member skills growth.  Environmental compliance is expected in all aspects of maintenance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Regularly monitors the performance and progress of the safety plans as well as the implementation of the company’s guidelines in this area.
  • Proactively implement processes and systems to improve overall plant reliability.
  • Define performance indicators of the maintenance team and ensure compliance.
  • Create and monitor KPI indicators to assess the achievement of efficiencies in the maintenance operation.
  • Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
  • Ensures that the maintenance department is fully engaged in SAP requirements.
  • Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers.
  • Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Teams with other departments to ensure their needs regarding maintenance issues are understood and are solved in a timely manner.
  • Prepares department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget.
  • Oversees, coordinates and reviews maintenance project activities to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Establishes skill training for the team members and review progress for achievement.




  • 5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Manager preferred.
  • 8 + years of experience in industrial maintenance field
  • Must have the ability to plan and organize, must have ability to work well with people at all levels in a Team Based environment.
  • Must have experience using software-based maintenance systems-- SAP is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be technical enough to motivate and train supervisors to adopt technology—in SAP, this Maintenance Manager will be approving expenses, reviewing purchase orders, reviewing spending, material lookups, reviewing work orders, notifications, etc.
  • Must have experience in the proactive implementation of processes and systems to improve overall plant. 
  • Experience in managing large scale projects, such as major capital projects to modify or improve critical equipment.
  • Must be able to lead a project from start to finish with the design, scope, and execution of the project
  • Must have experience in mechanical (experience in electrical is also highly preferred, but not a must-have)
  • Must be skilled in understanding and calculating mathematical concepts (ex: calculating density, air flows, thermal oil systems, calculating horsepower, electrical usage, etc.).
  • Skilled in project execution and tools
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Degree in maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field of study is preferred.


PLUS (Not Required):


  • Experience in wood or paper products is a plus.
  • Previous experience in construction – related projects (capital projects)
  • Allen Bradley and/or previous PLC experience, along w/ power transmission, automation experience is a great plus
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations in related field is a plus.
