EHS&S Assistant - Grayling, MI



This is a bench strength/succession planning position. This position is located in Grayling, Michigan at our new, particleboard mill (opened April 2019) in support of Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S&S) activities while learning the process and business aspects of Particleboard and TFL manufacturing. This includes communication, implementation, administration, and monitoring of various EHS&S&S programs, processes, procedures, and EHS Management systems (i.e., ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) in support of strategic goals. This is a succession role with the intent to groom for EHS&S positions that might become available at any of our US locations. Future growth opportunities may require relocation.



  • Conduct EHS&S&S projects/tasks as assigned
  • Provide support to the site and corporate EHS&S staff
  • Assume the role of corporate EHS Management System Administrator
  • Generate corporate monthly EHS&S reports accurately and completely
  • Help ensure compliance with state, local, and federal EHS&S laws and regulations
  • Develop and/or update written safety and environmental programs, JHA’s, SOP’s, and/or Work Instructions
  • Help develop EHS&S training materials and deliver training as needed
  • Help maintain EHS&S related files and documents. Maintain databases in an accurate and timely basis 
  • Perform regular area EHS&S inspections and determine appropriate or preventive or corrective measures and follow-up to ensure effectiveness 
  • Assist as needed in EHS&S activities including emission testing, sample collection, parameter monitoring, waste and recycling tracking, inspections and checks, and other EHS&S compliance needs as directed
  • Support company and plant sustainability goals, objectives, and targets
  • Collect and analyze EHS&S data as required. Contribute to the development of action items resulting from analysis
  • Participate in company EHS&S audits and offsite meetings and training as needed
  • Support major maintenance activities
  • Other duties arising from the completion of initiatives goals and continuance of the strategic plan
  • Participate in the performance feedback process
  • Participate in the development of EHS&S annual action plan
  • Participate in Teams and/or Working Groups in support of initiatives  
  • Develop skills of in support of role (e.g., particleboard and TFL manufacturing, Method 9 visible emissions, OSHA and EPA regulations, control device knowledge, and other skills as determined to be necessary)
  • Travel to other company locations as needed. Travel estimated 20-25% of time
  • Maintain awareness of and execute good safety practices at all company facilities as it applies to your activities there
  • Attend and participate in EHS&S meetings and training as required
  • Consider safety in all activities. Lead by example
  • Coach others on their contributions to prevent incidents and reduce environmental impacts
  • Continually seek and pursue opportunities to reduce costs




  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety and Health Management, and/or Health, Safety, and Environmental Management related fields of study
  • Desire 0-2 years of relevant safety experience with an internship in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Is driven, dedicated and reliable
  • Familiar with EPA and/or OSHA regulations
  • Familiar with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001standards
  • Action-oriented with high energy, drive, and enthusiasm.
