Reliability Engineer


Reliability Engineer ( wood products manufacturing )--Grayling, MI

Primary Purpose:

This position will provide overall leadership, direction and consistency for all facets of plant optimization and reliability activity. Drive continuous improvement in Uptime through a coordinated approach making use of condition assessment PM’s (vibration, infrared), lubrication/oil analysis services, risk identification and control, equipment history, proactive maintenance practices (laser alignment/ balancing), and specific equipment reliability improvements (de-bottlenecking).


Description of Essential Duties:

  • Owns reliability program for the mill
  • Leads by example and works with others to ensure area goals, action plans, standards and guidelines are set, implemented, and followed up on, as required
  • Actively supports the implementation of the Maintenance Reliability Process (ARP), as requested
  • Maintains oversight of facility technical library and documentation (SMP’s, SOP’s, RIP’s)
  • Makes sure documentation (RIP’s, Running Checks, PM’s, etc.) are being completed
  • Leads vibration, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound and all other PdM maintenance processes
  • Works to continue route development, cross training of maintenance personnel, and continued advancement of these processes
  • Leads site lubrication program
  • Responsible for complete summary facility downtime reporting
  • Weekly, monthly, annual downtime by area and cause reporting ownership
  • Provides hands on technical training, as required
  • Participates in weekend on-call coverage for the mill
  • Participates, as required, in craft enhancement, and technical training, as requested
  • Ability to conduct effective meetings, including good facilitation skills
  • Overall responsibility for site project management and execution
  • Overall responsibility for site PM development and refinement
  • Coach direct reports, and facility personnel one on one as much as possible
  • Involve teams and individuals on a broad range of decision making processes
  • Ensures that personnel in areas of ownership are held to the correct level of accountability
  • Responsible for providing leadership and organization to the maintenance of the team
  • Must possess effective written, oral and listening skills
  • Develops and conducts training activity on all process changes
  • Participates in routine planned maintenance and shutdown planning meetings
  • Supports and promotes the ARAUCO Asset Reliability Process (ARP)
  • Overall responsibility for equipment commissioning and documentation in BOM, and reliability process
  • Leads PM / PdM systems to optimize equipment reliability
  • Sole responsibility for major maintenance project planning and execution


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Electrical or Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industrial maintenance leadership at the level of Engineer, Department Supervisor, Maintenance Planner, Technical/Project Manager or higher
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experienced CMMS user (SAP, Maximo, MP2, or similar)
