Environmental Manager (Wood Products Manufacturing)—Malvern, AR

Primary Purpose:

To provide Leadership and Administration of Environmental and EHS Management System (ISO14001 and ISO45001) programs at the Malvern MDF mill and adjacent Prime Line operation. To ensure the site maintains environmental compliance. To enact air, water, and waste reduction initiatives and reduce overall site waste disposal. To ensure that environmental compliance is a cooperative effort for the benefit of all. To coach all staff on their obligations and duties as they relate to our compliance programs and site waste/spill management.

 

Description of Essential Duties:

  • Works to ensure all employees and contractors work in accordance with all ARAUCO environmental programs
  • A Resource to Area Owners for the successful follow-up on employee non-compliance with regard to environmental policies and procedures in the workplace
  • Engages Area Owners to address environmental non-compliance
  • Understands the Area Owners need to lead and be at forefront for review of incidents and non-compliance
  • Regularly reviews environmental work order backlog and challenges Area Owners when lack of progression identified
  • Responsible for oversight and compliance with all Federal and State environmental related legislation and regulations
  • Responsible for the administration, record keeping, and distribution of environmental communications and various monthly reports
  • Interact with leadership and workers in order to identify and correct potential noncompliance issues in workplace
  • Submits Title V, MACT, GHG, and related Air Permit Reports in a timely manner
  • Submits NPDES Wastewater and Stormwater Reports in a timely manner
  • Submits Hazardous and Solid Waste Reports in a timely manner
  • Submits “Right to Know” and EPA managed Reports in a timely manner
  • Ensures all deviations are included in reports
  • Ensures accuracy of all agency submittals
  • Lead for Safety Data Sheets and Chemical Inventory
  • Lead for Asbestos Management and Mitigation Recordkeeping
  • Lead for Hazardous Waste, Universal Waste, and Used Oil Management and Recordkeeping
  • Maintains all required Environmental Plans, including SPCC and SWPPP and ensures inspections and audits and completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain records of training activities and employee programs, monitoring their effectiveness
  • Develops environmental awareness training for management and affected employees
  • Maintain relationships with ADEQ and other required agencies and representatives
  • Represent ARAUCO in Environmental Industry Associations or other related groups as required
  • Key Contact and indirect report to the Corporate Environmental Manager
  • Be the site contact for all EPA and ADEQ inquires, inspections, and audits
  • Coordinate environmental activities for ARAUCO to ensure effective implementation
  • Participates in Corporate EHS&S Audits, Training, and Meetings as directed
  • As a member of EHS, collaborate and support the site safety manager

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Studies preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industrial experience in an environmental leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to coach employees and hold people accountable
  • Strong working knowledge with Title V, MACT, PSD, EPA and ADEQ Regulations
  • Very familiar with ISO14001 and ISO 45001 standards and conformance practices
  • Considerable knowledge of environmental principles, practices, and control device operation and maintenance
  • Very strong administrative skills
  • Ensures documentation is accurate and always current
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and conduct effective training and educational programs
  • Ability to plan and organize work in order to achieve desired results
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents
  • Ability to respond to complaints or sensitive inquiries
  • Required to problem solve, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and take action

Key Safety/Housekeeping Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates through use and participation the understanding of all required safety policies and procedures
  • Participates in mill safety audits
  • Maintains lockout certifications as assigned
  • Perform environmental audits as established and correct unsafe situations based on audit results
